Do you ever see a house that has huge spotlights shining up on it ?

Exterior home lighting should serve a purpose, namely, to ensure safety for your household and your guests as they enter and exit your home and to light up outdoor space that you are actually using at night. From Starry Night Lights, light pollution is misdirected or misused light and can come in three flavors: light escaping up into the sky, light glaring out into people’s eyes, and light imposing on another property.

Exterior lighting should shine down, not up or out and should serve a real purpose, as such lighting consumes energy, some at quite a high rate. Motion sensors are also useful.

Cabinet Lighting

The cabinets can be dark places, especially the base cabinets. Fishing around for pots, pans and other utensils in a lower cabinet is okay until you get to the back of the cabinet.

There are a few choices for lighting the cabinets and all are good. Speaking from an energy-savings point of view the LEDs are the best choice for short lighting periods while small fluorescents would be most cost-effective if they are being left on. Read More …
